The Big Agnes Encampment is the king of comfortable three-season bags with a 15-degree rating; super-solid shingled nylon ripstop shell, lining and bottom; and heavy-duty PolarGuard Delta filling. The revolutionary design combines the hugging warmth of a mummy-shaped bag with the comfort and free-range movement of a rectangular bag with a semi-rectangular sleeping pad sleeve. The Encampment’s durable construction was practically made for wet early-springtime adventures because its waterproof properties are among the best on the market. A lightweight solution for backpackers, campers and canoers alike that’s robust enough even for late-autumn excursions under the stars.

Campers and backpackers love the inherent heat and comfort they get from the Encampment, which they say is airy enough to be used on warm summer hikes. They say the bag’s light weight and easy-to-compact design makes it perfect for backpacking along long trails and through thick forests – without having to stop and shift their packs over and again. One of this bag’s most endearing features is that it comfortably accommodates side-sleepers, so everyone can find a cozy night’s sleep in the Encampment. Combine these features with a great price, and you have a perfect all-around three-season sleeping bag that everyone loves!

The Kelty Light Year is great series of sleeping bags because of the choices. You can pick the bag up in both down and synthetic and also in a temperature range from 0 to 40 degrees. The side zipper goes down to the hips to make entry and exit a breeze, especially for a mummy-styled sleeping bag. An innovative toe box zipper even lets you air your tired dogs after a long day of backpacking on or off the trail. A polyester ripstop outer shell blocks wind and rain, while the polyester taffeta lining offers comfort and warmth under the stars. Coupled with a 650-down fill or Climashield synthetic material, the Light Year is great for any temperature and weather conditions.

Campers love the Light Year for fun jaunts into the wilderness and extended summer and autumn trips, especially since it’s suitable for warm nights and cold, early mornings. Many backpackers say the toe box zipper is enough, but the relatively low price is what truly gives this great sleeping bag the value it is renowned for in the camping world. Backed by the Kelty lifetime warranty, this sleeping bag is durable enough for many seasons of backpacking and camping from the Grand Canyon to Alaska and beyond.

Montbell’s Super Stretch Hugger offers superb warmth and superior comfort with a specially-engineered 15D Ballistic Airlight nylon stretch lining that lets you move freely while you sleep. The Hugger #2 (pictured) is insulated by 800-fill down for 25-degree comfort, this super-light weighs in at just 1 pound, 11 ounces and takes up less room in your pack than the standard water bottle. Billed as a true three-season sleeping bag, the Hugger #2 is perfect for crisp, cool nights in open shelters, cars, RVs and any other camping and climbing environment over 25 degrees. It keeps the chilly night winds out with a draft collar and the mummy-shaped sack hugs you as you sleep, yet allows plenty of free movement for the tossy-turny sleeper.

The Super Stretch Hugger Series comes in 7 different varieties depending on your temperature rating needs. Campers say the stretching effect of the Hugger bags not only adds comfort and free-range movement, but also eliminates cold pockets and dead air space by snugly hugging their shoulders and toes. They love the sealable bottom layer because it makes the bag accommodating to tall and short backpackers alike. Barely a silhouette when compressed and nearly light enough to forget you’re even carrying it, the Montbell Super Stretch Hugger #2 is the perfect bag for soft starlight slumbers three seasons long.

The Big Agnes Storm King is perfect for staying warm and dry on crisp and shivery nights with a 0-degree rating and 650-fill down insulation. A WRM nylon outer shell keeps moisture and humidity out while an extremely roomy rectangular design affords campers more should and leg room for a comfortable, cozy slumber. Like its brother, the Big Agnes Pomer Hoit, the Storm King is lightweight at just over 3 pounds and lacks bottom insulation. Insulating pads can be inserted through a back slip and this, coupled with the ingenuitive bottom, makes the Storm King a great lightweight and warm solution for light winter camping.

Winter campers say the Storm King performs as billed. While it’s not a great bag for absolutely frigid conditions, they say it’s perfect for maintaining tepid temperatures and dry feet in 0-degree weather. Day climbers love how lightweight the Storm King is, and say they barely notice it in their packs when climbing big slopes. This bag isn’t too hot for car camping, either, so it is a great solution for overnight and weekend trips on the ‘light’ side. Backpackers say insulation pad insertion is quick and easy, and provides all the bottom insulation needed from a comfortable, roomy rectangular bag.

There’s cold, and then there’s frigid. If your game is serious arctic, glacial or high mountain peak backpacking, the North Face Dark Star is for you with -40 degree PolarGuard Delta Synthetic stuffing and a Polyester/Nylon overlapping-shingle shell. The Dark Star keeps the freezing, wet cold out of your bag on chilly expeditions and is overstuffed to keep you warm and dry. A draft collar and draft tube work together to whisk wind away from you and back into the wilderness where it belongs, while hood and chest adjustments are a breeze with color-coded pull cords that you can see on dark, damp nights. North Face even included an easily-accessible chest pocket and mesh storage bag for the ultimate in convenience.

Serious backpackers know that the only way to avoid frostbite and hypothermia is to have a consistently warm, dry bag to tucker down in at night. They love the Dark Star because it does both reliably. They say it’s a bit bulky to carry and a little on the heavy side; but that those are small concessions to surrender when the Dark Star makes braving the night time elements so easy and comfortable. Whether you’re out on a Polar Bear or just backpacking dangerously, the Dark Star will keep you warm and dry.

The name says it all as the Mountain Hardware Wraith was engineered to persevere harsh elemental poundings when mountaineering. Rated at -20 degrees, the Wraith is packed with hot features like a ripstop shell, comfortable 40D nylon lining and a 100% water-tight Conduit SL laminate layer to keep you dry and toasty no matter what the mountain throws at you. This mummy-shaped sleeping bag offers 800-fill down insulation packed in lofty baffle construction, a down-filled face gasket and over-stuffed draft collar to keep your extremities, head and shoulders warm well under zero-degree temperatures. A double draft tube complements the face gasket and draft collar to keep the sheering wind at bay and seal warmth where it should be – around the sleeper.

Hard-core climbers and trailblazing backpackers say the Mountain Hardware Wraith offers the most cozy, comfortable sleep at high altitudes. They love the fact that this sleeping bag actually lives up to its temperature rating, so they’re not left surprised and freezing on their first night out. Even hunters love the Wraith when going after big game like mountain sheep, ram, and bear in the high north. As an added feature, the ergonomic foot box is a big hit because it allows natural foot movement for a superior, soothing, and refreshing sleep that’ll have you recharged for the next day’s hiking, climbing, or hunting anywhere!

From Boy Scouts to hard-core adventurers, the Marmot Helium delivers robust protection from the elements with water-resistant Pertex Quantum N-090 Ripstop shell and taffeta lining. The 900-fill down adds warmth and comfort to this lightweight, easily-packed sleeping bag that comes in handy when space is at a premium on camping and backpacking trips, and even when kayaking. Rated at 15-degrees and loaded with features like a face muff that keeps annoying chords and zippers at bay, the Helium is the perfect solution for all-around three-season adventures and even performs during early and late winter months.

Many campers say the Helium is the perfect get-up-and-go bag for climbing, hiking, canoeing and kayaking because it takes up little room in the pack yet has excellent warmth properties and a waterproof exterior. Combine that with superior comfort and its three-season durability (backed by Marmot’s lifetime warranty), and it’s easy to see why the Helium has rapidly risen through the ranks as one of the industry’s best sleeping bags, bar none. Many overnighters say the comfort and warmth alone is worth the Helium’s price tag, and that the packability and water-tight design are only icing on the cake for such a great sleeping bag.

Big Agnes engineered the Pomer Hoit to be lightweight enough for climbers, yet robust enough to keep them warm in 0-degree weather. This sleeping bag is perfect for overnight and weekend trips into light pine forests, boasting a ridiculously-light weight at just over 2.5 pounds. Big Agnes accomplished this by removing the bottom insulation, which becomes worthless when compressed anyway. The tough 725-fill down and WMR water-resistant shell make up for it and keep campers warm and dry on the slopes, and a sleeve even lets you add a REM pad for ultimate warmth. The durable mummy-shaped bag is backed by Big Agnes’ lifetime warranty, so it’s perfect for hundreds of frosty forays on – and off – the trail.

Climbers really love the Pomer Hoit because it is so lightweight and doesn’t bog them down or throw them off-balance. They say that the lack of bottom insulation is hardly noticed on nippy nights, and a REM pad or two are plenty enough to keep them warm on the frigid ones. They also love the built-in pillow sleeve, which handily doubles as a coat-warmer overnight. If you know what to expect out of a bag, and you’ll be climbing and camping in 0-degree weather, then the Pomer Hoit is perfect for you!

If your adventurous spirit often has you just pick up and go, then the Kelty Chinook is for you. Whether spending nights under the stars after a long day of hiking or in an open shelter or truck after an afternoon of canoeing, the Chinook will keep you dry and comfortable with a water-resistant Quallofil stuffing and double-ripstop nylon shell. The taffeta lining adds extra warmth and coziness to this three-season, 20-degree-rated sleeping bag. While not suited for the frigid cold of dead-winter, the three-season Chinook is perfect for spring, summer, fall and even light winter camping because it keeps you dry and eliminates wind with a draft collar and mummy-shaped design.

Campers say the Chinook is one of the best bags on the market for a durable, light-duty solution that is easy to toss around and pack up. The Chinook’s low price only adds to its popularity as a go-to bag, especially in moderate backpacking and camping conditions. Even canoers love the Chinook because the Quallofil stuffing stays dry even if the bag gets wet, so everyone can expect a soothing slumber every time they zip in to their Chinook. Airy enough for tepid summer nights and warm enough for late-autumn camping, the Chinook is a perfect all-around bag at an affordable price.

Hate cold nights on the trail? The North Face Tundra offers a toasty slumber with -20 rated PolarGuard Delta Synthetic insulation and heavy-duty overlapping-shingle Polyester and Nylon shell. This mummy-shaped sleeping bag has plenty of creature comforts like a chest-level pocket that keeps your cell phone, radio, watch, or other useful gear at your fingertips (without having to unzip to use them!). A roomy, vaulted footbox keeps your toes warm and increases circulation, while an adjustable draft collar keeps the whistling wind out of your bag. The built-in pillow pocket can store clothing and other soft accessories, and adds extra comfort on those harsh late-winter trips.

Backpackers love the Tundra’s features and convenience, and say this sleeping bag is best-suited for temperatures just over 0 degrees. They say the taffeta bottom and shingled construction keep snow, ice and water out of the bag so they don’t have to worry about frostbite and freeze. An excellent bag for low-woodland, late-season backpacking and camping, the Tundra offers durability to last hundreds of trips into rocky terrain and is packed by North Face’s lifetime warranty. The mummy design hugs backpackers yet offers enough room for comfort, while the solid exterior keeps cold spots at a minimum
